Wolastoqey Resource Development Inc.
Generating sustainable power and prosperity for our people
Our organization was created to facilitate key development projects ensuring Wolastoqey participation and providing a stable revenue source for our communities for generations to come.
Salmon River Wind Project
We are collaborating with Halifax-based Natural Forces to build one of the largest Indigenous-owned renewable energy projects in Canada. This wind farm will produce wind energy, an increasingly more cost-competitive energy source.
This project will contribute to the provincial goal of adding 1,400 MW of wind power to the grid by 2035 and displace more costly, less environmentally friendly forms of energy. The Project would consist of up to 34 wind turbines, with a total capacity of approximately 203 MW. This size of project would supply enough electricity to power up to an estimated 43,000 New Brunswick homes annually. The proposed turbine location is approximately 9 km southwest of Hammondvale on provincial Crown land.
The project is proceeding with great care and intention to ensure minimal environmental impact and maximal benefit to Wolastoqey community members, as well as all New Brunswickers.

Project Benefits include:
-
Stable revenue source for Wolastoqey communities for generations to come.
-
Local employment and contracting opportunities during the development, construction, operation, and decommissioning phases of the Project.
-
Economic spinoffs from Project activities in the local region.
-
Cost-competitive and emission-free electricity contributing to energy security and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Indigenous Knowledge Braiding

As part of our commitment to respectful and inclusive Indigenous engagement, we are working with the Wolastoqey Nation in New Brunswick (WNNB), the Regional Development Consultation Coordinators (RDCCs), Wolastoqey community members, and Knowledge Holders to create more opportunities for meaningful inclusion of Indigenous perspectives in the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process for the Salmon River Wind Farm project.
The Wolastoqey worldview teaches that the land, water, and all living beings are deeply interconnected and must be approached with care and reciprocity. By engaging directly with community members, we aim to create opportunities to listen to stories, teachings, and lived experiences that deepen our understanding of place, insights that Western science alone cannot capture. Through site visits, information sessions, open dialogue, and shared learning, we aim to braid Wolastoqey Knowledge with Western science in ways that create space for meaningful opportunities to shape the regulatory process/project.
All contributions are shared voluntarily, with full consent from participants, in accordance with OCAP and UNDRIP principles, and treated with the utmost respect and care.
The perspectives shared will be verified by community members and included in an addendum to the EIA. Our goal is to ensure the process reflects both scientific and cultural understandings of the environment, supporting stronger, more balanced, and community-informed outcomes for the future.

Community Site Visits
We invite community members to participate in site visits and feedback sessions. These events aim to foster local involvement and transparency as the project develops.
These do not replace consultation obligations, but are meant to inform and engage community members on this project.
